I have taught in preschool classrooms for the past eight years and through that time I have continued to study and grow in my understanding of young children. I have been inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. Some of the important elements of this approach include providing children with a beautiful environment and materials, allowing time to listen and observe their work, documenting children’s work and involving families in the work of the children. Along the way I have attended and presented at multiple conferences and earned a master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Central Michigan University.
Along the way I have also married, Scott, and recently had a daughter, Alice. Having a family has motivated me to open Natural Journey Child Care so that I can be with Alice every day and allow me to continue working on my passion in life which is exploring the world with young children. I am also passionate about nature. I love to be outside hiking, biking, camping, gardening and lounging:) My love of nature also influences my work with children so you will see natural elements in our indoor environment and we will spend time each day exploring our outdoor environment. Our family also eats vegetarian so we will offer a vegetarian breakfast, lunch and snack daily. My goal is for Natural Journey to be a place to nurture a child's natural development in a comfortable, fascinating environment.
Stephanie and I have been working to create Natural Journey Child Care for several years and it's nice to finally see it come to life. I've had the pleasure of seeing her interact with young children over the several years that I've known her. She's been a positive influence on both our daughter Alice, her nephew, and some of her young cousins. I always feel safe leaving Alice in her hands.
Most days I work from my home office upstairs which allows me to come down a couple times a day to say "hi" to the kids and see how they're doing. I also have lunch with them and try to help out where I can.
I'm also the tech support for the business though luckily we don't have many electronics for the kids to play with.
